Thank you for your interest in Central Portugal Properties. We are a small company who live and work in the region in which we operate. We are dedicated to provide a personal, friendly and professional service to our clients. We are a licensed agency.
As our name implies, we specialize in property in central Portugal. An unspoilt land of contrasts – from vineyards, orange and olive groves, spectacular mountain scenery to beautiful white sandy beaches along with many villages, towns and cities ranging from ancient to modern. Outside the larger towns and cities the area is largely rural and the people are very friendly, In fact, they live life as they have done for many hundreds of years, it is not an uncommon sight to see sheep and goats wandering along the roads, or a donkey pulling a cart. The pace of life is very calm and relaxed and stress is not a word you hear mentioned very often, although in the larger towns and cities a more lively lifestyle is available.
Away from the large towns and cities the levels of traffic are very low and three cars represent a traffic jam.
The cost of living is lower than in northern European countries. Eating out is cheap and servings are plentiful, typically “meia dose” (half a serving) is enough for most visitors to the country. A two course meal for four will typically cost around 40 euros including wine and coffee in a local cafe. You will not find “all day breakfasts” and you will enjoy a Mediterranean diet.
In central Portugal you can still experience the seasons. Summers can be very hot, in fact often hotter than the Algarve, reaching the upper 30’s centigrade and the summer season stretches from June to mid-October. Winters can be cool at night with occasional frosts, particularly in the mountainous areas, but the average day time temperature is around 15 centigrade. Rain is concentrated into rainy seasons from October to early December and April to May. This part of Portugal is very green for most of the year.
The flora and fauna of Portugal is an interesting mix of Mediterranean and typically northern European plants and trees. Everywhere you go you will find olive, fig and citrus trees along with cork oaks, walnuts, chestnuts, hollyhocks, dahlias and roses.
The crime rates are generally very low, although in areas where many tourists are found the rates may be higher. In cities you should take the same precautions as you would in any other city in the world.
At present the population of the whole of Portugal is around 11 million. This is less than the population of London. Unlike some other areas of Portugal or, indeed, Spain there are not thousands of ex-pats in the area.
If you want to live in the real Portugal, then this is the area for you.
